There are many healing and rejuvenating qualities of sleep that are missing when sleep deprivation is involved.  Hypnosis can help to instruct the unconscious mind when it is appropriate to go over things and when it is appropriate to relax and let go.

With insomnia the mind races out of control and endlessly turns over real and imagined events. This state of mind is sometimes useful – when planning something, you want to make sure you’ve considered all the angles. It’s not very useful when you’re trying to sleep however.
